Recently there has been much discussion surrounding inequality within the American entertainment industry.
From the #OscarsSoWhite movement against the lack of diversity in Academy Award nominees, to Janet Mock calling attention to Taylor Swift’s lack of female producers, many necessary conversations are being discussed on both news sites and social media.
Actress Jessica Chastain has now taken a major step toward pushing against gender inequality in Hollywood:She just launched Freckle Films, a production company with all-female executives. Chastain will head the company along with development executive Elise Siegel. They are partnering with Trudie Styler and Celine Rattrayof Maven Pictures.
“I’m excited to launch Freckle Films, and I can’t imagine a better production partner than Maven Pictures,” Chastain told Variety. “Trudie and Celine are not only both highly experienced and successful producers, but the projects they’ve created demonstrate their tenacious dedication to strong characters and compelling stories that clearly resonate with audiences. It’s an honor to work with them, as well as their company, one that mirrors many of the goals that I aspire to achieve with Freckle Films.”
In their business arrangement, Maven will fund film development and the acquisitions of books, screenplays, plays and intellectual properties for Freckle Films to then jointly produce. For the projects, the executive producers will be Jacqui Lewis, Leili Gerami, Clemens Pongratz and Elise Siegel.
